Make Your Fans Your Cameramen

There have been several instances of late in which bands have crowdsourced fan footage for music videos, but recently, Panic at the Disco tapped into a brand new video-sharing app to put location-specific images to the lyrics of their single, “Ready to Go.”
“Instagram for video” Viddy launched in May, allowing users to create short, stylized videos and share them with their social networks. Soon after launch, Panic at the Disco teamed up with the app, asking fans to download it and shoot video of the band playing on tour, as well as creative representations (see above) depicting what it’s like to attend a show.
Right now, the band is cutting together all video submissions from their 23-city tour, with the video slated to drop this week. Yes, the band could have easily enlisted a cameraman to follow them around, capturing their tour for posterity, but instead they tapped the audience (each of whom has a camera in his or her pocket, anyway) to tell their own stories, creating a much more personalized, multi-faceted look at the live show experience.

New Article: MODESTO: Panic cancels on X-Fest

Panic! at the Disco canceled its headline X-Fest appearance in downtown Modesto today hours before the show due to a family illness.
Event promoter Chris Ricci said he received a call from the band in the early afternoon informing him they had to cancel their concert. He said the father of the group’s drummer, Spencer Smith, has a degenerative condition which has taken a turn for the worse. So Smith wanted to be with his family.
“He wanted to spend his last couple days with him, and I am totally supportive of that,” Ricci said.

Panic! At The Disco's Brendon Urie has checked in about last night's ankle injury and the status of the band's current tour. Via P!ATD's publicist, Urie says in a statement:

Place: Pompano Beach Amphitheater, Florida
Situation: Critical
Well... It's kinda funny, actually. In the middle of the show, I usually sprint around the venue to get to the front of house to play an acoustic number face-to-face with the fans. The song went over just fine, but on the way back to the stage I lost balance trying to sprint down some stairs. Rolled my ankle and felt something tear in my foot. When I crawled back to the stage, I felt a need to look at my injury. My ankle had swelled up to the size of a pool-ball, but the adrenaline had helped to subdue the pain. Got an OCL splint from the hospital where the doctor told me not to walk on it for at least 3 weeks.
Well, Doc, I don't have 3 weeks. The shows will go on.

So the fifth clip to realize that Shane Drake P! ATD after "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" "But It's Better If You Do" (A Fever You Can not Sweat Out) and "Nine in the Afternoon" (Pretty. Odd.). Known for its theatrical live presentations, Panic! at the Disco plans to get bigger, albeit in smaller places, when it hits the road this month to promote its new album, “Vices & Virtues.”
Frontman Brendon Urie says he and drummer Spencer Smith “are all about evolving. We had played all these big arenas and done these big shows in the past. Something we hadn’t done in a while was nice, intimate theaters, a good 2,400-capacity room where you can still see everybody in the crowd as far back as it goes.” Those venues, he adds, allows Panic! to “dress up the stage” in an even more elaborate manner than the larger spaces.

Rock Group Panic! at the Disco Sets Sights on Broadway

Following in the footsteps of Green Day and U2, members of the rock group Panic! at the Disco have expressed interest in bringing their music to the Broadway stage. "That would be amazing," drummer Spencer Smith told Access Hollywood. "To put together a show that was a mix of our music as well as maybe tell a story...that would be like a dream."
Smith acknowledges that the group might have to start small for their first foray into theater. "It would be in like New Jersey," Smith said with a laugh. "Like-off Broadway. Really far." The group's videos and performances are theatrical, but no word yet on whether they'd want to follow Billie Joe Armstrong to the Great White Way. "Every musician wants to act, but we have a way to do it where people know we're not trained actors, so we can be a little bit cheesy," Smith said.
Panic! at the Disco recently released their third album, Vices & Virtues, and will begin a North American tour on May 22.
