FORMER PANIC! AT THE DISCO MEN CONTINUE THEIR BEATLEMANIA
Both Ryan Ross and Jon Walker will most likely be paying royalties to The Beatles' estate for years to come, thanks to their contribution to the last Panic! At The Disco album. But the unapologetic Sgt. Pepper's... homage that was Pretty. Odd. may yet turn out to be the tip of the iceberg because, with their new project, the former emo pin-ups are being even more blatant with their '60s Brit-beat references. The five-piece are obviously still enamoured specifically with the sound and image of Liverpool's most famous sons, right down to Jon's chiming guitars and Andy Soukal even having the same bass as Paul McCartney. But it's a wholesale devotion to their parents' record collections that is already translating into a slew of catchy jangle-pop numbers like The Who-tingled Change, or the bittersweet tale of a South African encounter in Capetown. Such is their level of Anglophilia that, at one point, Ryan even adopts a faux English accent to inform the crowd that he's going to treat himself to a "nice cup of tea" to refresh himself between songs. The accents need a hell of a lot of work but, when it comes to writing tunes, The Young Veins are progressing very nicely indeed.
